ABNS is a not-for-profit, membership organization governed by an
elected group of representatives. We are focused on improving patient
outcomes and consumer protection by promoting specialty nursing
certification. The ABNS mission statement is, “to promote the value of
specialty nursing certification to all stakeholders.”
ABNS sponsors four awards for the specialty nursing certification community
The Diane Thompkins Lifetime Achievement Awardis the highest and most prestigious award given in
recognition by the broader nursing community as a significant leader in the
field of nursing specialty certification. This award is given in recognition of
an individual working in the field who has made a significant and lasting
impact on the field through their professional accomplishments and
contributions.
The Diane Thompkins Lifetime Achievement Award is named for Diane L. Thompkins, MS RN in recognition of her significant impact on the nursing industry.
The ABNS Award for Rising Leaderrecognizes those early in their career who demonstrate exceptional promise and who have already made a significant impact in advancing the nursing certification industry.
The Janel Parker President’s Award recognizes an individual or organization within
the ABNS membership that has made significant contributions to specialty
nursing certification and to the association.
The ABNS Research and Innovation Awardrecognizes an individual or ABNS member
organization for outstanding achievement in research and innovative practices
related to nursing specialty certification.
